Privacy at Bhajan Together

Last updated: [DATE OF LAUNCH]

Bhajan Together helps you sing bhajans, verse by verse. We collect as little as we can, we never sell your information, and we never show ads.

If you sing without signing in

Your journey (which bhajans you sang, for how long and how many times) and your settings (text size, lyrics language, scene, English line, translation) are kept only on this phone, in your browser. We do not receive them. Clearing your browser data removes them.

If you switch on daily reminders, see "Daily reminders" below for the little we keep.

If you sign in

We keep:

  • your name, email address and, if you use Google, your Google profile picture;
  • your journey: which bhajans you sang, when you started and finished, how many times, and how you began (for example from one of your lists), with the lyrics language you used and whether the scene was on;
  • your lists of bhajans;
  • your lyrics language, so a new phone starts with it;
  • whether you want emails about new bhajans and updates.

We use these only to show you your journey and lists on any phone, to send the emails you asked for, and to count, without names, how the app is used. When you first sign in, the journey already on this phone is added to your account.

Emails

We only email you if you ask: the sign-in link and news about new bhajans. News is off unless you switch it on, and every news email has a link to stop it.

Daily reminders

Reminders come as a notification from your browser, not by email, and only if you switch them on. You don't need to sign in. For each phone or computer where you switch them on we keep:

  • the address your browser gave us for sending it notifications, with its keys;
  • the time you chose and your time zone (such as Asia/Kolkata), so the reminder comes at your own time. A time zone is not your location;
  • the last date you sang a bhajan to its last verse on it, so we don't remind you on a day you already sang;
  • if you are signed in on it, which account it belongs to.

Your browser's push service (Google for Chrome and Android, Apple for Safari, Mozilla for Firefox) delivers the reminder. It is sealed so they cannot read it, and it says only that it is time for a bhajan: never your name or anything you sang. Switch reminders off on the You page, or block notifications in your browser, and we delete what we kept for it.

The circles waitlist

If you join the waitlist we keep your email address and, if you give it, your WhatsApp number. We use them only to tell you when circles are ready. We message you on WhatsApp only if you ticked "You can message me on WhatsApp". We delete the waitlist [WHEN — for example, 12 months after circles launch], or sooner if you ask.

Counting visits

To understand how the app is used we count anonymous events, such as "a bhajan was started" or "a bhajan was sung to its last verse", using PostHog. These never include lyrics, your name, email or phone number. We also record app errors with Sentry so we can fix them, without personal details.

Your location, your contacts, your camera or microphone recordings, or payment details.

Your choices

  • See or change your name, settings and lists on the You page.
  • Delete everything yourself with "Delete my data" on the You page (we ask once to be sure, and you need to have signed in during the last day). This also removes you from the waitlist. Or email us at [CONTACT EMAIL] and we'll do it within [30] days.
  • Leave the waitlist or stop emails at any time with the link in any email, or by writing to us. Switch daily reminders off on the You page.
  • If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before signing in.

Changes

If we change this page we'll update the date above, and email signed-in people about anything important.
